Google My Business (GMB) Claim Your free Listing to Promote your business

GMB free listingNow that things are heating up and summer is upon us, Inspector gadget (me) has been reviewing Google My Business (GMB) new free listing tool. I decided to try it and had my listing up in 30 minutes. It was launched in June 2014.

As part of any business’s search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy, it is important to claim and verify your business’ Google My Business (GMB) listing if you have not already done so.

Getting on Google My Business can increase your chances of showing up in Google’s Local Pack, Local Finder, Google Maps, and organic rankings in general.

Local businesses can claim this free listing on Google and include information about their company, like their description, address, phone number, business hours, and types of services provided. You can even add photos and videos. See image on the left as an example.


Once you have claimed and verified your Google Business free listing, you can further optimise your listing by using these four wonderful features:

  • Google PostsThese Posts allows you to promote sales and offers.  You can upload an image, ad copy and it even includes a classy little call to action (CTA) button. There is also an option to create an event. 
  • Booking Button– Reserve With Google allows service based businesses to book appointments within GMB by integrating with a online scheduling providers. With this in place Google will automatically add a booking button into your Google listing. 
  • Google questions & answers – Customers now have the opportunity to ask questions directly over their Android devices and on desktop within GMB. This feature is still underutilized by local business owners and users.
  • New Selection Attributes – In November GMB rolled out New Selection attributes which allows you to specify predefined choices.

There are other features to the listing besides the ones mentioned above and these are continually being updated. Some features are only available in certain countries for now. I will keep you updated with any changes.
